Entrepreneurdex  Dallas, Texas | Entrepreneurdex is a startup studio using principles and theories from chaos, emergence and complexity sciences to fund, launch, accelerate and scale startups and growing businesses.

2001 –2003

TESLA CAPITAL, LLC, Silicon Valley, California | Co-Founder and Partner. Tesla Capital LLC was an early stage seed fund that utilized complexity theory to make investments into 25+ early stage companies during 24 months in diverse sectors such as Enterprise Software, Wireless, Financial Services, Hardware, Entertainment, Consumer, Beverage, Transportation, Internet, Publishing and Media. The investments ranged from $100,000 for seed capital to $5M for growth and expansion capital.

  • Raised $50 million in capital and invested into 25+ companies in various stages of their life cycle. Portfolios included: KindMark, Worth Media, The Electric Cycle Company, Comstar Interactive Media, Blue Iguana, Channel M, Your Design Center, Brothers Brewery, Monee Group, DannyBoy Extreme, Velara Software, State Software, etc.
  • Managed business on a daily basis, made all investment decisions in portfolio companies and used just-in time principles towards portfolio management of companies.
  • Board positions included: Futuredex, KindMark, Worth Magazine, Monee Group, DannyBoy Extreme, Blue Iguana, The Electric Cycle Company, and Comstar Interactive Media.
  • Responsible for assisting portfolios in securing acquisition offers and subsequent funding. 

2000 – 2003

FUTUREDEX INC. San Francisco, California | CEO, Co-Founder, Editor-in-Chief. Futuredex was a media publishing company and an online marketplace for private companies and private equity investors. Futuredex published a magazine supplement that was distributed with Worth Magazine to a targeted base of 345,000 high net worth readers.

  • Raised $4M of capital to start the company.
  • Managed a staff of thirty people, set strategic direction and vision for the company.
  • Conceived and started Futuredex Media. Editor-in-Chief of Futuredex Media, a private equity magazine that was published as a supplement to Worth Magazine. Subscriber circulation included 345,000 high net worth readers. Key magazine issue covers were Emmitt Smith, and William Riley.
  • Developed and executed two national funding competitions called Match-A-Million; one company received $1 million term sheet.

Previous Experience:

2000-2001 Director of Business Development, JUPITER MEDIA METRIX (formerly Net Market Makers), Berkeley, CA. Net Market Makers (NMM) was a market research company for B2B Marketplaces and exchanges. NMM was acquired for $40 million by Jupiter Media Metrix.

1997-2000 Partner, TESLA GROUP, Cupertino, CA. Tesla Group was an executive management consulting firm specializing in start-ups and turnarounds. Clients include: Net Manage, UptimeOne, Xentex, CTI Interactive, VisualTek and Technicon.
